Childrens Books

There is a plethora of children's books available in today's bookstore and the choice can be overwhelming, which one is best for your child? Which one will have the most educational benefits? Which one will my child love?

An increasing number of children are starting school without having been read to, the strains of a modern parent often don't allow time to sit down and read to their children and TV makes a failsafe babysitter. But TV does the imagining for you, whereas children's books encourage a child to picture the action in their mind. The popular children's books of today are still the enduring classics. The 19th century saw the creation of Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, The Jungle Book, The Little Mermaid; the list goes on and on.

Nearly all of these classics have been turned into animated movies, and this is a testament to their fantastic structure and appeal. But instead of putting your child in front of the television to watch the movie version, why not encourage them to read the book and imagine the characters faces and mannerisms, this will brings weeks of enjoyment rather than the 90 minutes of an animated film.

Roald Dahl wrote timeless children's books in the 20th century, he penned such classics as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and Fantastic Mr. Fox. Part of the enduring appeal of Dahl's work with children is that his books were written from the point of view of a child and often had adult villains who hated children and typically one "good" adult to counteract the villains, this dramatic structure has kept his books constantly popular.

There are many lists of the best selling children's books that are divided into age groups and are very helpful in finding the right book for you child. But before you become overwhelmed with the amount of new children's books on the market, take time to consider the classics, because after all, they are not called classics for nothing.
